In their homeland, Sardinia, they are called "malloreddus", which in Sardinian dialect literally means "little dumplings", and are considered the typical dish par excellence.

The peculiarities of these small gnocchi are the size, designed to give an inimitable consistency, and the striped surface, once obtained by crushing the pieces of dough with the thumb on the bottom of a wicker basket called "ciurili" and today made using a chopping board grooved.

Particularly tasty with traditional recipes, combined with fresh ricotta or pecorino cheese, Sardinian Gnocchetti are also excellent with tomato or meat sauces.
