The scientific name is Sesamun indicum.
Sesame seeds are oily seeds, considered one of the main vegetable sources of calcium and are therefore useful for strengthening bones and teeth. They also contain magnesium, phosphorus, iron, manganese, selenium, zinc and a good proportion of proteins.
They also contain folic acid and other B-complex vitamins. They bring oleic acid and linoleic acid, which help keep LDL cholesterol under control

In Italy, the best known use of sesame seeds is that they are incorporated into the recipes of breadsticks, bread, crackers and other baked goods. It is also the main ingredient of a Sicilian dessert, the giurgiulena, a particular type of crunchy.
